The aim of sustainable shipping is to combine ecological, economic and social responsibility. The environment should be protected, money earned and people given a future. This is currently being attempted with the topics of energy saving, environmental protection, occupational safety and resource efficiency. For German shipyards and suppliers, this means a growing need for qualified skilled labour - and Polish personnel are playing an increasingly important role in this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shipbuilding in Germany encompasses many specialisms and professions - from engineers, welders and ship mechanics to electrical and mechanical engineers. All of these skilled workers are involved in the development, design, manufacture and assembly of ships, both at shipyards and in the maritime supply industry. And this is precisely where the problem lies: the demand for qualified specialists is constantly increasing, while the young talent on the German labour market cannot keep up. The most important specialisms and professions in German shipbuilding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shipbuilding is not for loners. Teams work here, taking on important sections in the planning, construction, maintenance, repair or refitting and conversion of ships. This offers a wide range of different professions - and makes shipbuilding one of the most versatile industries of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In planning and engineering, shipbuilding and marine technology engineers design new types of ships, produce detailed drawings, plan the various components in the hull and superstructure and monitor production and assembly. They manage complete projects - from the development of new systems to the repair and maintenance of existing ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technicians are important helpers for engineers. They convert design plans into real, functioning machines and systems. Ship mechanics, on the other hand, maintain and repair the machines, help to secure the cargo and check the safety systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the maritime supply industry, skilled workers manufacture the components and equipment needed for the ships - engine systems, electrical systems or entire segments of the hull and superstructure. When it comes to what is particularly in demand, the answer is clear: engineers, craftsmen with specialised skills and technical professions. At the skilled trades level - and this is precisely where we place Polish personnel - the following professions are particularly sought after:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welders<\/strong> are indispensable in every shipyard. In the shipyards, steel meets steel and steel meets aluminium - connections must be permanent and reliable. At the front and rear, in the centre, above and below: welding takes place everywhere. Stable connections must be created that can withstand any wind and weather. No ship must break apart under waves, storms and its own movements in the water. Polish welders - often certified to EN ISO 9606 - fulfil precisely this requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technician in shipbuilding<\/strong> carry out repairs, look after the engines and all the new high-tech propulsion systems. In other words, they make sure that the ships can move. Polish industrial mechanics and fitters are highly trained for these tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boat builder<\/strong> construct specialised ships and yachts with precision and an eye for quality. Here, too, there are experienced specialists with relevant training in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maritime electricians and electrical engineers<\/strong> are indispensable on modern ships. While many propulsion systems are still based on fuel combustion, nothing runs on board without electricity. Complex control and monitoring systems, management systems, lighting, ventilation and installation systems all need to be supplied with power. Polish electrical engineers ensure that all devices receive the power supply they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mechanical engineer<\/strong> are also increasingly in demand. Ships have engines - from small auxiliary drives in sailing ships to huge units in cruise ships. These need to become more efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly. Without qualified mechanical engineers and plant mechanics, ocean liners will not be able to sail the world's oceans. The shortage of skilled labour in German shipbuilding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shipbuilding is subject to constant competition - and this competition has many facets. Shipyards, suppliers and shipping companies compete not only for the favour of clients, but also for workers. Without a sufficient number of qualified employees, orders simply cannot be processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As if this double competition were not enough of a challenge, there are also other factors: constantly new and stricter regulations for safety and environmental protection, constantly new technologies that engineers and planners must first understand and then integrate into designs. The result is a situation in which companies are desperately looking for skilled labour to keep their plants running. Without the right skills in sufficient numbers, neither hulls nor superstructures can be manufactured - and no systems or machines can be installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All experts and specialists need sound training and experience. The demand for them is constantly increasing. On the other hand, the supply of young talent from the German labour market is declining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish specialists as a reliable solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Poland has a strong tradition of vocational training in precisely those trades that German shipbuilding needs most urgently: Welders, fitters, electricians, pipe fitters, industrial mechanics and mechanical engineers. Polish skilled workers are familiar with European standards, have the relevant certifications and can be mobilised at short notice for project assignments at German shipyards or suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
